Defiance helps out, Nammick flips out, and a good time was had by all.

Did trial 4 last night for a few who needed. We also brought along a few guests who needed trial 4. Realy cool in my book that we were able to help some non-members out, but wow, who knew Nammick hated that raid so much! WEEEEE Flashbacks to Rocci there! Overall it went well though and we got it. Grats to the tagalongs!

PARSES:

A note on parses since this has come up a few times now:

The parses are actualy hosted off of my own makeshift server. The outputs from ACT generaly are between 4-10mb and I don't want to pay for a service that can host them, number 1, and number 2, I don't want to transfer 10mb worth of literaly 100+ HTML files for EACH parse, so its easier to just drop em in the FTP folder and link to the first page from the blog.

That said,
The makeshift server is just that... makeshift. It is hosted on my 3rd backup PC (read Piece of Crap) and the FTP software does not come up right on reboot. I need to manualy stop it and start it again before it works. 90% of the time the server sits in its own corner and does jack shit while it waits for someone to connect and look at the parses. Lately though I've been tinkering with it trying to actualy make it into a usable box, so I often forget to restart the FTP server when I do that stuff.
2nd: If you are behind a firewall or at work many places will block FTP traffic. I am working on this (probably will be fixed with some port forwarding issues on my end)

FINALY:
I just baught an e250 off of ebay! It has 2 300mhz procs, 1gig of ram, and 2 9gig hard drives (expandable to 6 hot swapable 146gig drives!) I am very excited for it to arive and when it does the entire FTP server will move to that server which will be up 100% of the time. I may also do some other cool stuff with web hosting to remove the FTP component all togather. As I upgrade the drives I may even start doing some hosting for other guilds and individuals who would like to share fraps vids screens etc...

UNTILL THEN: the parses are accessable under limited circumstances when I feal like it. So be patient and I will get my new server up and running ASAP!

Also: If any guilds are interested in some free hosting after I get this new server setup I'm williing to set aside some space for you to play around with.

Dat skaly lizzard kuda been a "smith" juggy not know, but it tasted awefull so spit it bak out an left lookin fer more "smith" tu eat.

*sigh* Why do they have a problem with such a trollish name?

Well, the problem is this: Juggy despite doing much for and in the comunity is not popular to some people. An dem people like tu harrass juggy by working the system. And dat is why Juggy is now a "Smith"

Why did juggy stay a "Smith"? Well here is the angry letters and their nasty responces from SOE customer service.

SIT BACK AND MAKE SOME POPCORN, THIS GETS LONG:

EMAIL TO CUSTOMER SERVICE:

SOE,

Let me first introduce myself. In game I am Juggerknott Baby'Eaterz, from the Lucan DLere server.

I have recently had my characters last name changed by a GM. The reason given was that it violated a section of the naming policy.

1. Vile, profane, rude, or racist names including common swear words, anatomical references, racial slurs, and homonyms of these words.

My name was Juggerknott Baby'Eaterz. Vile yes, "profane, rude, or racist names including common swear words, anatomical references, racial slurs, and homonyms of these words?" definitely not. The rule very clearly implies that they are trying to keep profanity and other sexual content or racist content out. I can not believe that this policy was meant to impede role playing. This is a role playing name, for a troll on a role playing server.

I have found myself stuck in this same problem over and over and we need some kind of policy in place to protect the role playing from those who try and use the system as a form of harassment. I am an officer in a not well liked guild on the Lucan DLere server. As such I am used to being harassed in game through /tells and /shouts and /oocs. This kind of thing I can ignore and not respond. I have also found myself being harassed on the forums. There was a time when I couldn't post at all without getting a flaming response. My signature block was even the cause of much trouble in the past due to flamers trying to get me in trouble. Raijinn Thunderguard was a big help in that manor, and after much discussion of the limits of role playing and the balance needed between a players ability to role play and the tolerance of some to offencive content, a solution was reached. In the space of that discussion Raijinn even suggested an idea for my signature: An empty plate with a rattle on it!

Now someone has again found a way to use policy against me for the purposes of harassment. By reporting my name in game they have used the GM's and a policy meant to keep out profane names to strip me of my own. When I chose this name I based it off a role playing idea and followed the precidence set by the SOE developers. If you take a look around freeport alone you will find many trolls named with equally vile names.
A few examples:
In east freeport, wandering the docks you will find a female troll with the surname "bloodrinker"
In Big bend, on the dock you will find a troll named "Splatterblood"
In South freeport an ogre named "Throattearer"
And that's just a quick tour.

Violent and disgusting names are clearly SOE's intent for trolls and ogres. The name "Baby'Eaterz" is just an extension of whats already in place. Look to any other fairy tale and you will find trolls living under bridges eating small children that are foolish enough to cross.

I want some kind of policy clarification, or new policies in place to protect people like myself who are clearly role playing. I want my name restored back to Baby'Eaters, and I want to not worry that in a month someone will be angry at me for whatever reason and try to get back at me by crying to a GM that I am violating this or that policy by the thinnest of margins.

THE RESPONCE FROM SOE:

Greetings Luke,

Thank you for contacting the EverQuest II Customer Service Department.

In an effort to maintain a family orientated game we have ruled that names using babies or children in a negative fashion should not be in Norrath. As you said the name “Baby`Eaterz” is vile which is mentioned in that section of the policy. I am afraid that we cannot give you back your original name.

If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to let us know.

Regards,

Joseph Paolinelli

AND MY ANGRY RESPONCE BACK:

So bloodsplatter is acceptable? This falls under vile as well. Being a family oriented game you have not added any blood to the combat, but you have it in the names? This is rated T for suggestive themes, use of alcohol, and violence. In other areas where the Baby'Eaterz has come up it has been deemed okay to use. I am a little put off by the inconsistancy of the different groups within the "sony family."

I am also more than a little upset that SOE is allowing players to use policies like these to harras other players.

FINALY THEY RESPOND WITH THIS:

Luke,

I apologize if I gave the impression that this was up for discussion. It was ruled many years ago in our original product, EverQuest, that any names that are negative towards young children or babies are not appropriate for our games. This ruling has been carried over to all of our products and the decision is final.

I realize this news is very upsetting and I apologize. If you have any other issues that need to be addressed please feel free let us know, keep in mind that this decision is final and will not be reviewed any further.

Regards,

Joseph Paolinelli
